About The Centre for Literacy

The most important predictor of success in reading (decoding) and spelling (encoding) is Phonemic Awareness. Phonemic Awareness is the ability to identify and manipulate the individual speech sounds in words; in other words, it is the ability to match speech to print.

This is the basis of our literacy program.

Who We Are and What We Do

  • We are a private diagnostic and teaching centre for reading, spelling, writing and comprehension difficulties.
  • We use a clinical approach incorporating different ways of teaching people how to improve their
    • critical thinking,
    • reading,
    • writing,
    • spelling, and
    • comprehension.
  • Our sensory-cognitive strategies are well-researched and consistently effective.
  • These strategies work even with people who have not been helped by other methods.
  • We offer:
    • one-on-one instruction.
    • highly qualified teachers who are able to select and modify programs to meet their students’ needs.
    • individualized programs, tailored to each student's individual literacy requirements.
    • a caring and nurturing environment proven successful for students with learning difficulties.
  • We have been helping students develop their literacy skills since 1990.

  • Includes LiPS Trainer's Manual,
